AltaCorp Capital Inc. positioned for growth
Jon Horsman appointed Chairman and CEO

Calgary, AB – AltaCorp Capital Inc. (AltaCorp) has named Jon Horsman, previously the co-Head of ATB Financial’s (ATB) Corporate Financial Services team, as its new Chairman & CEO. AltaCorp, the capital markets arm of ATB, is realigning its expertise and resources to expand its role as a trusted partner to existing clients, while reaffirming its commitment to advocate for clients in the global competition for capital.

Jon Horsman takes over from Paul Sarachman, who had been serving as co-CEO since late 2017. Sarachman, who remains President of AltaCorp, has played an important role in helping to guide the company through many of the changes it undertook over the past few months.

“Paul has demonstrated impressive leadership over this transition period,” said Horsman. “He and I have developed a great partnership and as president, Paul will lead an expanded executive portfolio, including sales and trading, research, retail and compliance.”

ATB became a majority shareholder of AltaCorp in early 2018, which now gives clients access to a full suite of financial service solutions for all of their treasury, finance and advisory needs. This offers clients the best of both worlds—the entrepreneurial mindset of a boutique investment firm backed by the considerable resources of a respected financial institution. ATB and AltaCorp have committed to investing in Alberta’s energy, agriculture and diversified industry sectors—sectors that remain key to global economic growth.

“We are deeply rooted in the industries that drive the global economy today and those that will shape the future,” added Horsman. “We take pride in offering innovative capital market solutions that will help our clients realize their potential.”

Four new senior investment bankers have joined AltaCorp, strengthening its sector expertise. AltaCorp has also expanded its market coverage, which now includes an office in Edmonton. New to the AltaCorp banking team are: Mike de Carle, Managing Director, Investment Banking Head of Energy Services, Equipment & Technology; Roland Walters, Managing Director, Investment Banking, Head of Midstream, Infrastructure & Renewables; Alf Sailer, Managing Director, Investment Banking; and Vincent Kong, Director, Investment Banking, Diversified Industries.

“With over 75 years of combined experience and expertise these individuals bring to their work, AltaCorp will continue to meet the evolving needs of both entrepreneurs and investors,” said Horsman. “And by strengthening our service offerings and working closely with ATB, we can serve clients through all stages of their business cycle, from startup to successful exit.”
