Mike de Carle

Managing Director, Investment Banking

Head of Energy Services, Equipment & Technology

Mike de Carle is Managing Director, Investment Banking and Head of Energy Services, Equipment and Technology. Mr. de Carle is based in Calgary and has more than 24 years of investment banking and corporate finance experience. Prior to joining AltaCorp Capital, Mr. de Carle worked with PPHB, a Houston-based energy services investment bank. Previously, at CIBC World Markets Inc., the investment banking division of CIBC, Mr. de Carle was a Managing Director covering large cap E&P companies and was responsible for the Canadian oilfield services sector. Mr. de Carle has worked with a broad range of public and private companies, providing advice in regard to strategy, M&A and financings. In addition to his focus on Canadian clients, his deal experience includes several international companies.

Mr. de Carle is a Patron of Lester B. Pearson College, Victoria, BC, and previously served on the Board of Trustees and the Foundation. Mr. de Carle holds a BA Economics (First Class Honors) from Mt. Allison University and MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management.
 


Jeffrey Fallows, LLB/MBA, CFA

Head of Agriculture & Diversified Industries

Mr. Fallows has more than 11 years’ experience working with Canadian and International Agriculture, Consumer and Industrial companies on a wide variety of transactions including equity, M&A and corporate finance advisory. Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Fallows worked at leading independent and bank-owned dealers in Canada and the U.S. Mr. Fallows has an LLB/MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and the UWO Law School and is a CFA Charter holder.


Leslie Kende, P.Eng., MBA

Managing Director, Investment Banking

Head of Exploration & Production

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Kende was Vice President of Engineering at Vero Energy Inc. (a publicly traded junior oil and gas producer) responsible for: acquisitions, divestitures, reserves and corporate strategy analysis. From 2003 to 2007, he was an integral part of Tristone Capital’s successful Acquisitions and Divestitures practice, with direct involvement in more than $ 8 Bn worth of transactions. Mr. Kende began his career with Amoco Canada, later Crestar Energy, in 1990 in production and development engineering. He has had broad experience across the oil and gas production industry with a third-party reserves evaluator; multi-national production companies; and several junior companies, including Pinnacle Exploration and Cabre Exploration. Mr. Kende holds an Engineering degree from Queen’s University with a specialization in Geophysics, and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Kende is a professional engineer and member of APEGA. Outside of business, Mr. Kende is a Past Board Member of Rundle College Society, and Past President and Director of the Hounsfield Heights Briar Hill Community Association.


Alf Sailer

Managing Director, Investment Banking

Mr. Sailer has over 22 years of private and public company corporate finance experience and has acted for Canadian and international clients, including national and cross-border merger transactions.  Prior to founding the M&A Advisory Services group at ATB Financial in 2015, Mr. Sailer had a successful 16 year investment banking career at AltaCorp Capital and Acumen Capital Partners.   
 
A native of Calgary, Mr. Sailer is a graduate of the University of Alberta (BSc. Pharmaceutical Sciences with distinction; DDS) and the University of Calgary (MBA).  In 2007, Mr. Sailer completed an executive leadership program on corporate governance at Harvard Business School.

Mr. Sailer recently served on the board of CanaDream Corporation, a publicly listed company, until its sale to an Australian corporate.  He has previously served on other public company and not-for profit boards.  Mr. Sailer is frequently invited to speak on a variety of business, capital markets and M&A topics.


Roland Walters

Managing Director, Investment Banking

Head of Midstream, Infrastructure & Renewables

Mr. Walters has extensive experience in mergers & acquisitions, capital markets and corporate development. He has helped companies with corporate strategy, acquisitions, divestitures, financial analytics, capital raises and infrastructure planning.  His industry expertise spans many sectors, including midstream, infrastructure, pipelines, power generation and renewables.  Before joining AltaCorp, Mr. Walters worked for a multi-national financial services firm where he was responsible for advising clients on corporate finance and capital markets transactions. Prior thereto, he worked in corporate development at a large cap energy infrastructure company. He has been active in the energy sector for over 15 years.   Mr. Walters holds a Master of Business Administration (Class Valedictorian) from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Commerce (With Distinction) from the University of Alberta. He was awarded his Corporate Finance Qualification from Chartered Professional Accountants Canada and is a graduate of the Mergers & Acquisitions Executive Education Program at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. Mr. Walters is an Industry Advisor for the PRIME Investment Fund at the University of Alberta


Arturo Vilas

Managing Director, Investment Banking

Latin America

Mr. Vilas has more than 30 years’ experience working in energy investment banking. Most recently Mr. Vilas was VP Business Development and Argentina Country Manager for Miramar Hydrocarbons / Petrolera del Comahue SA, a producer of crude oil in Argentina. Prior thereto he was Managing Director of Macquarie Group’s Buenos Aires office and managed Macquarie’s energy practice in South America. In early 2007, Arturo initiated Tristone Capital’s successful Latin American practice. Prior to that, Mr. Vilas was Managing Director of Scotia Waterous and J.P. Morgan Chase. He was also a Board Member of Interoil ASA, and Oslo Bors – listed E&P companies with operations in Colombia and Peru. He is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in French, Portuguese and Italian, in addition to English. He holds a Licenciado en Administración de Empresas’ (Business Administration degree) from the Universidad Católica Argentina, Buenos Aires


Vincent Kong, CFA

Director, Investment Banking

Mr. Kong has more than 11 years’ experience working on corporate finance and M&A transactions across a variety of industries including: financial services, consumer, energy and industrials.  Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Kong was the founding Director for ATB Financial’s M&A Advisory Services group. Prior to that, Mr. Kong worked at leading independent advisory boutiques and in the corporate finance group for a big four accounting firm. Mr. Kong holds a Bachelors of Commerce from the University of Alberta and is a CFA Charterholder.


Patrick Stables, CFA

Director, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Stables was an Investment Banking Analyst with Thomas Weisel Partners/Stifel Nicolaus, where he focused primarily on E&P and Oilfield Services. Prior to that, he worked in the Private Investment Advice division of TD Waterhouse. Mr. Stables holds a Bachelor of Applied Finance Degree from Mount Royal University and is a CFA Charterholder.


Chris Arseneault

Vice President, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Arseneault was part of the Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory Teams at ATB Financial and at Ernst & Young where he successfully executed M&A transactions for companies across Western Canada. Previous to that, he gained experience financial modeling for a large public midstream oil & gas company and developed his knack for finance while working in investor relations at Agrium during a period of shareholder activism.

Chris holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and a Bachelor of Social Science with a Minor in Economics from the University of Ottawa and is currently pursuing the last level of the CFA designation.


Gregory Smiddy

Vice President, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Smiddy was an Investment Banking Analyst with Credit Suisse Securities (Canada), where he focused primarily on E&P including the oilsands sector. Prior to that, he worked in the investment banking department of Haywood Securities. Mr. Smiddy holds a Bachelor of Finance Honours Degree from the University of Johannesburg and is currently a CFA level II candidate.


Mark Wang

Vice President, Invesment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Wang was part of the Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory Team at ATB, covering mid-market diversified industries. Prior to that, he worked in the Energy Investment Banking Team at Scotiabank. Mr. Wang holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Alberta and is currently a CFA level III candidate.


Yarik Zakrevsky, CFA

Vice President, Investment Banking

Agriculture & Diversified Industries

Mr. Zakrevsky has 10 years of experience across Investment Banking, Corporate M&A and Principal Investing in a number of industries including consumer, pharmaceutical, financials, power & utilities and infrastructure. Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Zakrevsky worked in the Investment Banking group of a major Canadian bank.  Mr. Zakrevsky holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business and is a CFA Charterholder.


Tyler Press

Associate, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Press was an Analyst with TD Asset Management, where he held positions in both Equity and Fixed Income Research and Portfolio Management. Most recently, Mr. Press was a Research Analyst on the Canadian Equity Team where he was responsible for E&P Research. Prior to that, he worked as a Summer Analyst for Aberdeen Asset Management. Mr. Press holds an Honors in Business Administration degree (Finance) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and is working towards his CFA Charter.


Alex Chang

Analyst, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Chang was a Senior Staff Accountant with Ernst and Young LLP from 2014 to 2017 in the Toronto office with a primary focus on Financial Institutions. Mr. Chang holds an Honors in Business Administration degree from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He has passed all three levels of the CFA program and has passed all exams of the Chartered Professional Accountant program.


Arsalan Farooqui

Analyst, Investment Banking

Agriculture & Diversified Industries

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Farooqui was with Acasta Enterprises as a Private Equity Analyst with a focus on Consumer Products sector. Before that, he has completed summer internships at Acasta Capital’s M&A advisory arm and at Fiera Capital’s Fixed Income group in Toronto. Mr. Farooqui holds a Joint Honours degree (with First-Class Honours) in Economics and Finance from McGill University, where he graduated on the Dean’s Honours List. He is currently a CFA level II candidate.


Karim Merali

Analyst, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Merali interned as a Tax and Financial Analyst at Precision Drilling Corporation. Mr. Merali holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Economics from Queen’s University where he was a member of the Queen’s Economic Investment Council. He is currently a CFA level II candidate.


Dylan Morrow

Analyst, Investment Banking

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Morrow was an Investment Analyst with Mercer (Canada) Limited. Mr. Morrow holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance) with Distinction from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. He is currently a CFA level III candidate.
