Dirk M. Lever, CA

Head of Research, Managing Director, Institutional Equity Research

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Lever was a Managing Director at RBC Capital Markets for nine years where he held various senior roles in trading, sales and equity research in Toronto. Mr. Lever was Head of North American Energy Sales (2008 - 2011) and Head of Income Trust Research (2004 – 2008.) Prior to RBC, Mr. Lever was an Equity Research Analyst at National Bank Financial (2000 – 2004) in Calgary. Mr. Lever was consistently a top ranked equity research analyst and was a sought after speaker on the Canadian Income Trust Industry. Mr. Lever has worked in Corporate Finance, Venture Capital, Private Equity and Merchant Banking and is a Chartered Accountant who specialized in income tax. Mr. Lever graduated with Honors from Simon Fraser University and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Finance). Mr. Lever is a Director with the Canadian Chartered Accountant’s Canadian Performance Reporting Board.


Keith Carpenter, MBA, CFA

Prior to AltaCorp, Mr. Carpenter was a Managing Director, a  Brendan Wood Top Gun-ranked analyst and StarMine Award recipient at Canaccord Genuity, which he joined in 2008.  Between 2005-2008, Mr. Carpenter was the agriculture and base metal analyst at Toronto-based Interward Asset Management.  Prior to that, he was in the equity research department at BMO Capital Markets.  Mr. Carpenter attained a BA (economics) from Yale University, an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and is a CFA charterholder


Chris Murray, CFA

Managing Director, Institutional Equity Research

Before joining AltaCorp, Mr. Murray was the senior Analyst covering a variety of Canadian industrial and transportation companies at PI Financial Corp. between 2010 and 2013. Prior to joining PI, he covered Aerospace, Airlines and Special Situations at CIBC World Markets (2006-2010) where he held both associate analyst and analyst roles. Before entering the financial services industry, Mr. Murray worked at a number of companies in the mining, manufacturing and capital goods industries for 15 years in various engineering and management roles. Mr. Murray completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mechanical) degree from Queen’s University with Honors and a Master of Business Administration degree with Distinction from York University. He is licensed as a professional engineer in Ontario and is a CFA charter holder.


Nicholas Lupick, CFA

Analyst, Institutional Equity Research

Senior E&P and Oil Sands

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Lupick was an Associate Analyst covering the Canadian Large Cap E&P, Integrated and Oil Sands companies at CIBC World Markets. Prior there to Mr. Lupick was a Research Associate at UBS and a Junior Financial Analyst at ARC Financial from 2009 to 2010. Mr. Lupick is a CFA charter holder and graduated from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary where he was a Fund Manager with the Calgary Portfolio Management Trust.


Aaron MacNeil, CA

Analyst, Institutional Equity Research

Oilfield Services

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. MacNeil worked in a senior financial capacity at CanElson Drilling, a publicly-traded contract driller with operations in Canada, the US, and Mexico. Prior thereto, Mr. MacNeil was a Research Associate at Peters & Co. Limited covering Oilfield Services companies. Before joining the capital markets industry, Mr. MacNeil achieved the designation of Chartered Accountant with KPMG and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary. Mr. MacNeil also serves as a board member of KidSport Calgary, a charity that subsidizes sport registration fees for kids from low income families.


Thomas Matthews, CFA, P.Eng.

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Matthews was a Research Associate covering the Canadian Large Cap E&P, Integrated and Oil Sands companies at TD Securities. Prior thereto, Mr. Matthews was a Research Associate at AltaCorp Capital covering Junior and Intermediate E&P companies from 2011 to 2013. Prior to entering capital markets, Mr. Matthews was a Process Engineer from 2007 to 2011. Mr. Matthews holds a Master of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. Mr. Matthews is a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta and is a CFA Charterholder.


Patrick O'Rourke, CFA

Analyst, Institutional Equity Research

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. O’Rourke was an Associate Analyst covering Junior and Intermediate Canadian E&P companies at Stifel Nicolaus from 2011 to 2013.  Prior to that Mr. O’Rourke held an associate role at Bissett Investment Management (a subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments) from 2007 to 2011.  Mr. O’Rourke holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Economics at McMaster University and is a CFA Charterholder.


Mark Westby, J.D.

Analyst, Institutional Equity Research

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Westby was a commercial litigation associate at Code Hunter LLP. Prior to that, he was Manager of Project Controls and Scheduling at Cub Engineering Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of Calgary and a Law degree from the University of British Columbia.


Christian Erana

Associate, Institutional Equity Research

Christian joined AltaCorp in 2012, initially in a role supporting the research analyst covering Senior E&P and Oil Sands companies.  Prior to joining AltaCorp, Mr. Erana held positions at NAL Energy and Maxim Group, where he worked in capital accounting and as a financial analyst. Mr. Erana holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance) from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, where he was also a fund manager in the Calgary Portfolio Management Trust.


Crystal Obuck

Associate, Institutional Equity Research

Junior and Mid-Cap Exploration & Production

Prior to joining AltaCorp, Ms. Obuck completed the Sales and Trading rotational program at CIBC World Markets and was an Analyst on the Securitization team. Ms. Obuck holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. She is a CFA level II candidate.
