George Gosbee

Mr. Gosbee’s career to date spans over 20 years in corporate finance, investment banking, global capital markets, and advisory. Prior to founding AltaCorp Capital in 2010, Mr. Gosbee was Chairman, President and CEO of Tristone Capital Global Inc., a global energy investment firm which he founded. Tristone became the largest global independent energy advisory firm and was acquired by an international bank in 2009. His current firm, AltaCorp Capital, is an advisory firm that is partnered with Alberta Treasury Branch (ATB Financial), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Government of Alberta.

 
Currently, Mr. Gosbee is the Chairman of the Board for Arcadia Biosciences Inc.  Previously, George was the Vice Chairman of Alberta Investment Management Co (AIMCo) and was called on to assist in the creation of the crown corporation. He spent 8 years as the Vice Chair of AIMCo, which is a $90 billion institutional investment fund. Past board activities include Director of the TMX Group, Director of BioAmber Inc. and Board Member of Chrysler Group LLC in Detroit, where he served on behalf of both the Canadian Federal and Provincial (Ontario) governments to oversee their collective investment in the company and assist in the restructuring. Mr. Gosbee is a former Governor of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 2013 George led a group to purchase the Arizona Coyotes and restructure the Club. 
 
Mr. Gosbee served on the Economic Advisory Council for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, where he advised on the energy industry. He is a former member of the Canadian Minister of Finance's Economic Advisory Council that was formed by Minister Jim Flaherty during the economic crisis in 2008, and assisted him until 2013. In 2007, Mr. Gosbee co-founded Mass LBP which has become a leader in democratic innovation and public strategy. He is a Director, and past Chairman, of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary and a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE). Mr. Gosbee is a former Director of Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and former Board Member of the Alberta Economic Development Authority (AEDA). He is a stakeholder for the Canadian Global Affairs Institute (formerly the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute) and past Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Calgary Highlanders Infantry Unit of the 41st Canadian Brigade Group.
 
Previous community boards Mr. Gosbee has been involved with include Chairman of the Board for the Alberta College of Art and Design, Director of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, Board Member for the Edge School, Board Member for the Sandy Cross Conservation Foundation, Advisory Board Member for the Haskayne School of Business, Director of the National Ballet School Foundation, and a Board Member of the Art Gallery of Calgary.
 
Mr. Gosbee is very involved in fundraising for community organizations and causes. He has lead or co-lead campaigns and events for: STARS CEO Rescue in the Rockies raising $1.3 million, the single largest dollar amount raised in one day for STARS, Honorary Chair for Ducks Unlimited Canada Dinner, Co-chair for Calgary Meals on Wheels Fundraising campaign, Co-chair for Edge School Fundraising campaign, Chair for the Cross Nature Conservatory Fundraising campaign, and was Co-chair for Right to Play Fundraising dinner in Calgary.
 
In 2009, Mr. Gosbee was honoured as one of 200 Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum for his professional accomplishments and community commitments. He has received the Haskayne School of Business’ Distinguished Alumni Award, and was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year for the Prairie Region by Ernst and Young. Mr. Gosbee has been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Premier of Alberta, a symbol and recognition of ongoing service, excellence and community involvement. Mr. Gosbee is also a recipient of the Calgary Board of Education’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year award.
 
Mr. Gosbee holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary where he specialized in finance and petroleum land management.
